3 Crazy Ways Technology Has Changed the Modern Workplace

It’s no secret; technology has literally changed the way we live our lives.

Gone are the days where you order something from a catalog. Just hop onto Amazon, order what you want, and it magically appears on your doorstep two days later.

It almost seems like we don’t even need to leave the house anymore. Hungry? Go onto Grubhub, order some takeout from your favorite restaurant, and before you know it, a stranger is delivering your meal. Don’t feel like grocery shopping? No problem! Just get a Blue Apron subscription and get all your meals for the week delivered to your house, with the recipes and all necessary ingredients.Image result for 3 Crazy Ways Technology Has Changed the Modern Workplace

The ways technology has changed our lives could go on and on. Maybe the space that technology has influenced us the most is the workplace. With technological advances, we are able to accomplish things that were previously impossible. With all the changes, below are the three craziest ways technology has shaped the modern workplace.

    1) Staying Connected

With our phones/tablets/laptops, we are never too far away from the office.

Even if we are on vacation on the other side of the world, we can still have a finger on what’s going on back at work. Needless to say, this is both a blessing and a curse. Clients stay happy when you are there whenever they need, but sometimes you just need to unplug and get away from work.

    2) Organization

Many new companies have gone completely paperless.

50 years ago, this would have been impossible. But now, with tools like Google Drive, we can get rid of paper and still stay organized. Cloud services allow you to store everything online however you please and HR software has streamlined the hiring process.

Everything has become super accessible and customizable so you can stay organized and focus on what’s really important.

    3) Measurement

With all the analytic services out there, it’s now possible to intimately track how a project is performing.  For example, before it may have been difficult to judge how effective a PR campaign was. Now, you can track how it’s being received, if people are sharing on social media, and many other analytical questions. With all this data, you can tweak campaigns to work more in your favor, or devote more resources if the campaign is particularly successful.

At a glance, these technological advances might not seem that crazy. But take a step back and recognize how much your workplace would differ if you these changes never occurred. I think it’s safe to say that most of us would not be able to accomplish our jobs. Imagine having to write everything down, keeping them in large filing cabinets. Or not being able to check up on work if you have to step out of the office. These are all things we take for granted because they are apart of our everyday lives. The workplace and the technology surrounding it will only continue to grow. Be prepared for all the advances to come and embrace the change.
