If you say that someone is a “green company” we usually envision some small start-up that is proving itself with new ways to create energy or clean up the atmosphere. But the truth of the matter is there are companies that embrace the ideology of being a green company outside of the usual sphere. They can be anything from a social media company you probably interact with every day to a company that designs and manufactures laundry carts.
What is it that makes these companies so green? While we many not be able to give you a full answer on that question, we can point out just which unexpected industries are embracing it. You can decide if the decision is an altruistic visionary type of decision or a solidly pragmatic one that sees where the market is heading.
The Web Turns Green
In some ways, it should be no surprise that companies involved with the web would also look at becoming as green as possible. Facebook got into the game early, investing in ways to balance the carbon imprint their servers must have. Close behind the biggest social media giant of them all came the retail giant Amazon and the search giant Google. All of these companies invest in alternative power, which is a good thing since all these businesses use up enormous amounts of energy at their server farms.
Manufacturing Turns Green
One of the big impacts on manufacturing was when several companies began to introduce the idea of using recycled materials for their manufactured products. This can be a wide variety of products. The obvious ones like Earth-Tec you would expect to have green manufacturing guidelines since their main products are made from recycled material as part of their mission. But when you add in companies like Fibertech, a plastic molding company that also offers plastic recycling on a large commercial level, it can be a game changer. As more companies find ways to reuse and recycle plastics, we are finding ways to reduce plastic trashing of the planet.
Getting Solar
You might be surprised what companies, and how many of them, are expanding into solar power for their operations offices. Everyone from medical giant Johnson & Johnson to the Big Blue of IBM are announcing plans to slowly shift from traditional sourced electricity to solar and wind power. As the technology gets better and better, more companies climb on board.
People Power
What is even better, we as individuals may soon be able to all join the green revolution. There are many new and interesting companies coming along that are working hard to create green technology products for our homes.
Elon Musk’s latest innovation, a roof tile that is a solar panel, is just one good example. Right now, only the rich can afford this latest creation of the poster child for green technology, but just wait. If the solar roof tiles that came on the market follow most tech trends, they many be within the reach of the ordinary middle-class home owner in the next five years. We can all go solar, it seems, in time.
